Homemade lip scrub:

In a small cup,
2 tsp sugar
1 tsp olive oil
1 tsp honey

Stir it up with a fork. Slather it all over your lips!

This has helped my peely spring lips as they adjust from winter. Very usable as the recipe kind of turns into a ball of scrub. And yummy!

This weekend i made this peter pan bib necklace. I used flimsy felt and beads. I glued the beads on with a hot glue gun then connect the panels to each other and to chains using jump rings and pliars. Note that there are three jump rings between the panels so it lies flat. To get rings through the felt open them up and just push hard until it goes through.

Diy yarn lanterns:

My friend and i spent the day making yarn lanterns. We finally gave in to these blogosphere wonders. Here are our hints…

Use the glue mixtures that are prescribed (they are usually white glue, salt, water, cornstarch). This way it will dry clear.

Do not use straight modge podge.

Slather up your balloons with vaseline before you start.

Pay attention to them. Some of our balloons popped as they were drying which resulted in half collapsed shapes because we didn’t catch em in time.

The yarn worked easiest, but the twine looked prettiest.

We bought everything from the dollar store.

We think the could look very cute spraypainted!

Here is an awesome guest vid that jill from www.envirocraftiness.blogspot.com did for me about the paper flowers. She bunches them together to use for centerpieces. They still need to be painted and curled, butfor those instructions, just hit up her blog (sept 6 2010) or let your natural artistry fly!

Diy bridal shower veil!

I have a bunch of leftover tulle from a recent bridal shower, so i am reusing it for the bridal shower i am helping host in a week. We had a goofy veil for the bride, but lost it during the stagette. I offered to make the one for the bride’s shower. I picked up a pack of comb’s from my local craft store and pulled out the hot glue gun…

Take about a wingspan’s worth of tulle. Fold it in half. Scrunch up one end accordian style. Add glue to help it stay scrunchy. This is one fifth of the veil. Glue the scrunched end to the first fifth of the comb - make sure it is the side of the comb that would lay agains the head. Do this four more times so the you have 5 strands glued to the comb’s top. Put it on your own hair to gauge the length you want. Trim to desired length.

Bridal Shower Ideas…

Being in my mid twens, I have hit the stage in my life where every weekend in summer is a wedding. This year I am a bridesmaid TWICE, which will take me to owning a total of three bridesmaid dresses. Next summer I am also a bridesmaid… at what point do I get to begin saying, “always a bridesmaid, never a bride?”

Anyway, I thought I would give you my two cents on bridal showers. The shower is often the role of the mother or the moh, but times they are a changing, and i have noticed lately that the bridal party often helps to pick up the slack.

I have two showers forthcoming (one next weekend and one in three weekends) and have had my little role in both. Here are some ideas:

1) keep decorations to a minimum. Do a bouquet and some pictures of the bride through her lifetime at the entrance way of the locale. Also, if the shower is at a household, post balloons on the door so that guests know they are at the right house.

2) themes can really help set the tone, but are also completely unnecessary. if you choose to go with a theme, please make it obvious in your invitation.

3) keep it cheap by providing one alcoholic option and one nonalcoholic drink option. If you make a punch, also buy some hard alcohol and now you’ve doubled your alcoholic drink options.

4) games help to keep the day rolling… especially if the bride wants a LONG “me-day” shower… which they are TOTALLY entitled to… respect that if they want it. Prizes help to make the games feel worth it for the party poopers and believe or not are good motivators (yes adults love prizes too). Here are some games I am doing/have done at showers:

Bath bombs round deux!

I made these lavendar bath bombs for a second time. This time as favours for a friend’s bridal shower, so i wanted thrm to turn out more pro looking than my previous attempt. This time i followed exactly the proportions from http://envirocraftiness.blogspot.com

Here is my recipe for 6 bombs:

Mix 1 c baking soda with 1/2 c cornstarch and 1/2 c epsom salt.

Add some good hard shakes of solid lavendar buds.

In a small bowl stir together 1 T water with 2 T jojoba oil and 1 t lavendar essential oil.

Add liquids to drys and mix with your hands very well. It should seem “packable” like you could build a sand castle, but not moist.

Stir in 1/2 c citric acid with a fork. Then mix with hands. Pack into you jello mold or muffin tin. Then immediately flip onto parchment.

Let dry 24 h.

How to achieve the perfect shabby chic finish on your thrifted furniture:

1) clean surface with warm water and thoroughly dry

2) prime with a BRUSH. Only one coat. It won’t be completely opaque because you will see through some of the brush strokes

3) wait about an hour ish (i usually go for a jog)

4) paint with color of choice with a BRUSH, but only one coat! It will allow the brush strokes to be seen and some of the primer to show through.

5) Let dry

6) Sand areas that would naturally wear down (all edges and cornera, maybe near hardware)

7) sit back and smile about the fact that your dresser only cost $7 and a litre of paint
